Kud an unseen Paradise in Jammu Province is a place whose name surely makes one wallow in the aroma of a special toothsome sweet called locally Patisa. A famous poet namely Keats wrote that a thing of beauty is a joy forever.
The extremely beautiful Kud derived its name from a local folk dance called " Kudd" which is performed annually by the locals of this place with great fervor and gaiety to pay homage to their deities.
As far as the Topography of this place is concerned, it is a small picturesque scenic town nested in the lower foothills of the Himalayan Range and is situated at a distance of about eight kilometers from the world's world-famous and popular Hill Station Patnitop. Kud climate :
The weather in Kud an unseen Paradise during the peak summer season when the whole of the country faces scorching heat waves is quite pleasant and awesome. The average temperature ranges from 21 to 35 degrees Celsius followed by orographic rains from July to September.
The temperature in the winter season in Kud ranges from 4 to 8 degrees Celsius and it is extremely cool here. The place of Kud, Patnitop, Nathatop, and adjoining places like Batote witness heavy snowfall during the winter season. The first and foremost attraction in Kud is Patisa which is a flaky sweet made in Desi ghee and is unique of its kind here This desert is quite famous in J&K and in big demand among the people.
The next major attraction in this unseen Paradise is a Tulip Garden in the High Land Park which was developed by the Department of Floriculture where tulips of five different colors are grown and it fascinates a lot of nature lovers.
Another heart-touching and beautiful attraction in Kud is the famous temple of Baba Cheto also commonly known as Kud Wale Baba situated a few kilometers uphill from the Kud. This holy temple is very famous among the locals as they firmly believe that their wishes are fulfilled here and the divine Prasad in the form of Rutt made up of wheat flour and Jaggery is also served to the devotees.
Mandalote is another unseen and unexplored beautiful place near Kud Hill Station which grows a variety of flowers, thus adding additional charm to its natural beauty. Kali Mata and Shiv Temples(popularly known as Chotta Mani Mahesh) are also located here.
Tamatar Morh, lying in the turns of Kud is a new attraction in the form Airplane restaurant equipped with all requisite facilities for dining thus boosting visiting tourists.
Another Hill Station near Kud and Patnitop is Batote. It is a picturesque city is nestled in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir in District Ramban. Batote Hill Station experiences diverse climate conditions during the year and it is Situated at an elevation of about 1,560 meters above sea stage, thus enjoys a temperate climate with awesome seasons. Summer season in Batote is quite pleasant and charming imparting respite from the scorching warmness of the plains, with temperatures averaging from 20-25°C. It is at a distance of about 35 kilometers from District Headquarters Udhampur and 8 kilometers from Patnitop Hill Station. The beautiful panoramic view from such a high vantage point has gained its recognition as one of the most scenic spots of J&K. The river Chenab that flows in its vicinity with lush green leaves gives this place an enchanting auron that leaves the visitors mesmerized throughout the year. Buses, luxury coaches, Taxis, and cars are easily affordable from Jammu and Udhampur cities at manageable rates. It takes more than three hours to rKudh Kud from Jammu and more than an hour from Udhampur subject to the clearance e of the national highway Road.

Homestays can also be availed by visitors easily in Kud. There is also a big market here where special local cuisine and desserts are available for the tourists and travelers. Heavy rush of tourists and travelers is witnessed here through out the year as this being the special place where people halt for some time during their journey to Kashmir and other tourists destination in J&K to enjoy and purchase famous dessert Patisa and Rajmah Chawal which is quite famous in Jammu and Kashmir. The best things one can do in kud are trekking, photographing snowfall, camping, etc. Campsites are also available here. Kud Park is also one of the most must-see places here where visitors can visit and enjoy closely in the lap of Mother Nature.
Opinion :
Kud an unseen Paradise in Jammu Division in the Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir in India needs to be explored and developed fully with adequate Tourist infrastructure keeping in view its huge natural beauty, pleasant weather conditions, and topography.
Lavender Cultivation has been recently boosted in the Bani area under the CSIR- Aroma mission (2018) and it needs to be introduced in Kud also given similar climatic conditions as of Bani. Tulip cultivation must also be extended to more areas in Kud to attract tourists on a large scale and more advertisements be carried out to explore its unseen virgin beauty. Homestay provisions easily available here need to be promoted and facilitated to boost this place.
This will be another source of income and employment for the local people over here. We have sanguine hope that the Department of Tourism expands its vision towards this little unseen and unexplored paradise of Kud for its exploration, promotion, development, and advertisement on priority for alluring tourists towards this paradise.
