Tosamaidan : A Perfect Place to Explore and Trek. 

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) a union Territory of India is one of the most naturally blessed states in India as it is home to many  of the country's most picturesque and breathtaking destinations and among one such destinations worth visiting and exploring is Tosamaidan Kashmir.

Tosamaidan a breathtaking Meadow,  surrounded by dense pine forests and towering snow-peaks is a perfect place for tourists to visit with great enthusiasm and gaiety. The history of Tosamaidan dates back to Mughal period where is it is believed that Tosamaidan was one of the pastures which the shepherds of other neighboring countries also used to visit in ancient times. It also that  the  Mughals using   this route  to go to Poonch   and they had constructed a  seven storied building called as " Dam Dam." The name  " Toshmaidan" is derived from "TU SHAH MAIDAN"  which translates  to " King of Meadows"in literary terms & it is perhaps  Mughals who bestowed  this title to Toshmaidan as they had made this place their first stopover in valley when they entered Kashmir via Loran Poonch.

It is a big tourist destination in Jammu & Kashmir  and after crossing the upper Mountain reaches of Drang, Zakora  and other small villages, one can reach the delightful pasture of Tosa Maidan. The charming villages a the foot Hills of Tosamaidan are Sutharan, Drang, Lassipora, Ringzbal, Shunglipora, Chill Bass, Zoogu, Khariew, and lot more who offer rustic tapestry of Kashmir life of rural area. 

Tosamaidan  is naturally blessed with a lot of flora and fauna. The breathtaking meadows of Toshmaidan come alive with  vibrant palette of wild flowers including delicate  Irises and cheerful buttercups.  As far as fauna of Toshmaidan is concerned, it encompasses a multitude  of resplendent Koklass Pheasant, the elusive snow partridge, foxes, hares etc. The region bears about 95 species of bird that include  Kashmir flycatcher, the majestic Himalayan Snow cock, the illustrious Impeyan monal, along side a fluttering array of about 31 butterfly species adorn this vast expanse. 

The destination  boasts  many mammals like regal Himalayan brown bear, Leopard, Asiatic black bear, graceful musk deer, grey languor, snow leopard,  formidable Tibetan  wolf,  cunning red fox, agile leopard cat, charming  yellow throat-ed Marlen, Majestic Himalayan Goral, illustrious Markhor, enching  chakoor to a new a few. It is further said that as per research,  Tosamaidan has been a major  center of attraction since several years  for many natural lovers and Tourists & given beautiful and fascinating landscapes of this destination, tourists and travelers surrender their mind for the entire duration of their stay. Tourists & Travelers after reaching Srinagar either by air, train or road, one can hire a car or Taxi or cab and drive for Toshmaidan which is easily accessible  from Srinagar city. The distance between Toshmaidan and Sringar City is about 70 kilometers and it takes about  two and half hours to reach here via Budgam. Another route is from Sringar to Magam to Khag via Aripanthan  total distance via this route is only fifty kilometers. The nearest Railway Station is situated in Budgam Town at Ompora which is about 65 kilometers from Tosamaidan.  in order to reach this breathtaking tourist destination, one has to cross the upper Mountain reaches of Zakora, Drang and a few small villages  where a resplendent lake is located which is marked by the pine trees standing on its periphery.

Tosamaidan Doodhpathri Distance :  

Doodhpathri is an alpine  valley covered with snow clad Mountains  and meadows  of Pin Fir and Deodar and the natural meadows which are covered with snow in winter, allow the growth of wild flowers  such as daisies, forget me not and butter cups during spring and summer. The distance between Tosmaidan and Doodhpathri tourist place is 43 kilometers and it takes about one hour and forty five minutes to reach here from Doodhpathri tourist place.

Best time to visit Toshmaidan :


The most ideal season to visit this stunning tourist destination in kashmir is between April to September and during the rest period, the whole area remains covered with thick blanket of snow.  The main reasons whey the best time to visit  Toshmaidan is during the summer months  is that weather favorable with clear skies and comfortable temperature, the lush greenery of this place  gets revealed after the winter snow melts, Alpine wild flowers  are in full bloom thus making this place perfect  for photography and natural walks as this meadow is spread over an area of 65 sq.km. It is not recommended to visit here during winter season because it is covered with snow and inaccessible. The local home stays and Kothi walas provide best lodging facilities to the tourists and travelers during their visit to this wonderland.
