Sheshnag Lake in Sanskrit refers to the king of snakes and as per Hindu belief, the Sheshnag Lake was made this gaint Snake himself and is living still in the same Lake. It is a an extremly beautiful,Oligotrophic high altitude Alpine lake situated in the lap of of Pir Panjal and Zanaskar Himalayan Mountain range. The route to Sheshnag Lake originates from world famous tourist spot Pahalgam which is situated at a distance of about 90 kilometers away from City of Srinagar Kashmir. 6. Tarsar and Marsar Lakes :
Kashmir has its own unique experience of trekking in its region, Tarsar and Marsar Lakes are less explored trek usually explored by the adventure lovers in summer season. The trek consists of exploring of two high altitude alpine lakes namely Tarsar and Marsar Lakes which are situated at an altitude of about 12500 ft from the seal level.
The Tarsar and Marsar Lakes are two important lakes situated in District Pulwama in Kashmir, India. These twin, extremely beautiful lakes are situated 3 kilometers and 5 kilometers respectively away from the village namely Nagberan. It is a famous high altitude Alpine lake which is quite like almond shaped basin with turquoise water but this extremely scenic lake in Kashmir is accessible via a trek.
These lakes are s extremely stunning alpine lake which offers a mystical experience to the visitors and is shrouded in a mist and one can enjoy blue lagoons, snow fed rivers, alpine trees, wild flowers, snow capped mountains and amazing waterfalls. 7. Gadsar Lake :
Gadsar Lake is sorrounded by Alpine Meadows filled with lot of wild flowers. The Gadsar Lake is the best alpine lake in Kashmir and it takes generally three days to reach this lake via Krishansar and Vishansar Lakes. It is situated in District Ganderbal Kashmir and there are two ways to reach this extremely beautiful lake i.e. one is to hire a private vehicle from Srinagar City to Naranag via Ganderbal which is about 45 kilometers from there and thereafter one has to trek a distance of 15 kilometers which can also be covered by hiring a pony. Gadsar Lake is also known as Yemsar because this Alpine High Altitude oligotrophic Lake is situated at an elevation of 13750 feet from sea level. It is about 8 kilometers from Sonamarg in District Ganderbal in Kashmir, India. The best things one can do in Gadsar Lake are Angling, Sightseeing, Photography etc.
The other trek of about 25 kilometers leading to Gadsar Lake starts from Sonamarg via the Vishansar Lake and this route crosses the Nichnai Pass, situated at about 4100 meters from sea level before bringing one to the Lake.
The best time to visit Gadsar Lake is from June to September when the weather here remains quite pleasant. The pleasant weather is quite suitable for trekking and sightseeing. It is advised to carry warm clothes and rainproof jacket due to sudden changing weather conditions
8. Vishnansar Lake & Krishansar Lakes :
Vishansar & Krishan Sar Lakes are very famous lakes in Kashmir who are known for their delightful meadows and rich aquatic life. It is important to bring this into the limelight that Sonamarg Hill Station is one of the most popular Tourists destination of India which is also the most popular base camp for a number of multi day and short day treks.
Vishansar and Krishansar Lakes are the most scenic and beautiful part of Kashmir great lakes trek. The trek to these stunning High Altitude Alpine lakes also starts from Sonamarg Hill Station. These twin lakes are situated at an altitude of about 370 meters from the sea level and located at a distance of about 115 kilometers from the city of Srinagar. The trek to these delightful lakes offers beautiful views of rolling meadows rugged mountains and the numbe rof twinkling streams that follow parallel to the trekking route. Their trekking route remains disconnected for 6 to 7 months due to weather conditions and heavy snow falls.
9. Manasbal Lake :
Manasbal Lake is also an extremely beautiful fresh water lake located in Safapora area in District Ganderbal Kashmir, India and about 30 kilometers away from Srinagar City. It is surrounded by Lotus Plants and is considered as Popular destination for fishing and bird watching. Manasbal Lake is surrounded by four villages namely Jarokbal, Kondabal, Nesbal and Gratbal.
