The Holy Amar Nath is the world-famous and important Hindu pilgrimage destination located in the Himalayas in South Kashmir (India) and every worshipper of Lord Shiva takes Amar Nath Yatra once in his lifetime. Every year Government of Jammu and Kashmir organizes the Amar Nath Yatra with the association of the Amar Nath Shrine Board in the month of Shravan(July to August) which lacks pilgrims from India & other parts of the world come here to participate in this pilgrimage and have the Holy darshan of Lord Shiva in Amarnath Cave followed by Pratham Puja as well pay obeisance.
The Holy Amarnath cave is situated at an altitude of 12756 ft above sea level and is about 29 kilometers from Pahalgam, the basic camp of the yatra in District Anantnag of J&K India. It is also about 141 kilometers from Srinagar which is also an alternate route to the cave via Baltal. The Shivlingam is made of ice in the Holy cave which is the symbol of faith and trust for Hindus.
The distance between Sheshnag Lake and Pahagam is almost 17 kilometers and this Lake is situated at an altitude of 3590 kilometres from the sea level. The greenish water of Sheshnag Lake is home to large variety of fish including brown fish. The Sheshnag Lake is the famous and pious high-altitude oligotrophic lake that derives its name from the Hindu scriptures that consider Sheshnag as the primal being the creation of the king of Nagas or the serpent God with Six heads. As per Hindu religious belief, Lord Shiva left all his companions behind His riding friend - Nandi, the Bull at Belgaum now Pahalgam, the world-famous tourist destination of paradise, the moon atop his head at Chandanwari, and the snake around his neck at Lake Shesh Nag, the five essentials of life that he carried at Panchtarni and even he left his son Lord Ganesh himself at Ganespora (Mahangun top) in the Himalayas while visiting Holy Amarnath cave where he was about to tell Goddess Mata Parvati, the secret of mortality (Amar Katha) and Lord Shiva did not want anyone else to listen to it.
Therefore he left the holy Sheshnag here and proceeded towards Amarnath cave along with Goddess Mata Parvati. There is a lot of religious belief about this sacred place that Holy Sheshnag sometimes appears in the lake and one who has his Holy Darshan is believed to be the luckiest from the religious point of view and by doing Holy Darshan of Holy Shesnag Lake, it washes most of the sins and one feels peace. The water of this Lake freezes during the months of winter. It is one of the most beautiful pilgrims/Tourist attractions of J&K which is a green patch about one kilometer in length and approximately 0.7 kilometers in width.

it is believed that as per a legend, Lord Shiva the creator of this universe is said to have left Sheshnag(Snake), a divine snake in this place while talking about the secrets of eternal Life to Goddess Parvati at Amarth Nath Cave. It is believed that this snake still lives in the Sheshnag Lake and many devotees going on pilgrimage to Amar Nath Cave especially stop here to pay their respect and homage to the king of names. It is believed that sometimes pilgrims have glimpses of the snake in this lake in the shape of Holy Darshan. The lake is home to many fishes. Its deep blue water looks splendid and its kilometers length makes it a great attraction amid mountains, streams, and glaciers

Sheshnag Nag Lake famous pilgrimage center and an attractive Tourist place that is situated near the world-famous tourist resort Pahalgam at a distance of about 17 kilometers in District Anantnag Kashmir. This lake is situated on the track leading to the Amarnath cave and is at an elevation of 3590 meters above sea level. having a length of 1.1. km and width of a maximum of 0.7 km.
