Pangong Lake Ladakh, the best winter lake.
India is very famous for its beautiful and stunning Lakes who always offer unforgettable and unique experience during their visit particularly in the winter months. There are more than a dozen most beautiful and stunning Lakes in India worth visiting both in Summer and winter seasons that avails visitors and opportunity to experience and explore them very closely especially during winter season that has a its own value and charm.
In today's blog, I am coming with a brand new blog about one of the most famous, beautiful and stunning Lake namely Pangong or Pangong Tso lake situated in the mighty Himalayas in the Union Terrorist of Ladakh in India. Pangong Lake is very famous for its striking blue colour and rugged landscapes of Ladakh and it offers a surreal view in winter when it freezes thus creates a vast white expanse. It is most important to say that the clear skies, snow capped Himalayan Mountains and crisp air make Pangong Lake a top winter destination for domestic as well as global tourists to explore and visit.
Pangong Lake is situated at an altitude of 14270 ft above the sea level and is believed to be a one of the highest brackish water lake in the world which is about five kilometers wide and 134 kilometers long with one third part of it lying in India and other two third part in China. This beautiful lake which is also called as the best winter lake is nestled in the mighty Himalayas in Union Territory of Ladakh, in India is actually a salt water lake and its water is saline and has low micro vegetation. The color of this lake appears blue, grey green and red at different times and this lake completely freezes in the months of winter season and becomes a must see place for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts.
As far as summer season here is concerned, this lake becomes big breeding ground for many kinds of birds that include bar headed geese, brahminy ducks, black necked cranes and seagulls etc. This lake is about 5 kilometers in width and 134 kilometers long and looks very beautiful and every one who so ever visits here wishes to swim or at least to dip his legs in it but due high religious relevance to local population as well its chilly cold water, it is not possible and advisable to do so. The weather from May to ending September here remains quite warm and pleasant.
Pangong Lake Atmospheric Pressure:
Pangong Lake or Pangong TSO is situated at the highest elevation and therefore atmospheric pressure is quite lower than that at the sea level which clearly indicates that the oxygen level here is quite low and is approximately between 60 to 65 percent of the oxygen level at the seal level. It is not advisable & Safe to camp by the side of banks of Pangong lake. Visitors can either stay at camps nearby or in one of the home stays easily avaiblabe in nearby Spangmik Village. This lake became very much famous because it appeared in the Indian Bollywood movie 3 idiots.
Pangong Lake Accommodation :
There are few cemented accommodations available around this lake and facilities like electricity, medical aid and hot water etc for visitors. Pangong lake view camps have about more than fifteeen expansive deluxe tents well furnished with carpets, comfortable beds, decent pillows, quality furnishing for luxurious stay with fresh air and fields. Visitors are advised not to camp by the side of the banks of the Pangong lake but one can either stay at camps or one of the home stays easily available in the near by village Spangmik on affordable prices.
How to Reach Pangong Lake:
The maximum depth of Pangong Lake or Pangong TSo is about 330 ft (100 meters), its length is approximately 134 kilometers and elevation is 4225 meters from sea level and total area is about 699.3 square kilometers. As all of us know that Leh is well connected with rest other important places in India and regular flights link Leh with Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu & Srinagar etc. Visitors first need to reach Leh and from here, they can easily hire a Taxi, Car, Motorbikes, regular bus service, Jeeps etc for Pangong lake on nominal prices. Tourists and travelers travel through Changla Pass and then Tangsle but it has to made sure that fuel is filled at Leh and some extra quota of fuel is carried as there is no petrol pump near Pangong TSO or en-rout. The time it takes to travel from Leh to Pangong Lake is about 5-7 hours but depending on the condition of the roads and route & route offers scenic views of Mountains and geography ant the distance between Leh to Pangong Lake is 223 kilometers and the entire route from Leh to Pangong Lake is an epitome of scenic beauty.
This best lake is open for visitors from May to September and this area is actually a wild life sanctuary and hence the accommodation for the visitors here is quite limited and it is advised to book the accommodation well in advance before planning their trip to this one of the best lakes of the world.
Pangong Lake Places to Visit :
Pangong Lake is a popular tourist place in Ladakh and is landlocked lake that changes its colors throught out the day and year, from azure to light blue to green and grey. This lake is also famous for being the filming locations many Bollywood movies. Lukung Village situated on the eastern Bank of the Pangong Lake offers magnificent views of the lake & surrounding mountains and it is also a must see place in the area.The best places to visit in the vicinity of Pangong Lake Ladakh, India are Diskit Monastery, Thiksey Gompa, Leh Palace, Stock Palace, Tso Moriri, Chemrey Monastery, Hemis Monastery, Stakna Monastery, Shey Palace, Marmot Point, Nubra Valley and lot more during visitor's trip to Pongong lake at least of three days.

•Some Other Winter Lakes Located in India:-
Sattal Lake is another best lake of India situated in the State of Uttrakhand in Nainital. It is comprised of seven inter connected lakes and during winter season this lake is enveloped by mist which makes it an ideal place for nature lovers and bird watching. Naini Tal or Naini Lake is another best lake of India which is crescent shaped, surrounded by hills. This lake is often called as " Lake District of India" and winter here brings a layer of mist thus make the lake even more charming and attractive. This lakes is quite perfect for boat rides under crisp winter sky. TSO Moriri Lake , one more pristine alpine Lake is situated in Union Territory of Ladakh is surrounded by barren Mountains and the surface of the lake freezes during winter and hence offers a striking serene landscapes. Loktak Lake is situated in Manipur in India which very much famous for floating masses of vegetation and even looks more beautiful in winter season when cool mist covers the entire area.

Punnamada Lake and Vem Banad Lakes are also very beautiful lakes present in the State of Kerala which are quite beautiful and offers beautiful sight during winter season for tourists and travelers.
The unique landscapes together with winter's crispness makes this places extra ordinary sight to visit. Dal Lake Srinagar Kashmir is also one of the best lakes visited by the domestic and global tourists through out the year and it also remains always on the top priority of the visitors especially during the winter season also who visit here on large numbers to enjoy snowfall and particate in boat and shikhara riding in world famous Dal lake.
