Aharbal a famous and popular Hill Station :

Aharbal  is a beautiful and  famous Hill station in union territory of J&K-India falling in the jurisdiction of District Kulgam,Kashmir in Noorabad, Sub-District D.H.Pora about 68 kilometers from the summer capital Srinagar. It is worth visiting as it is one of the most scenic and extremely beautiful tourist resort in kashmir.

It is quite peaceful, suitable for trekking, photography, skiing during winters, expeditious fishing with mesmerizing look of meadows,pine, fir trees forests,the abutting Snow clad mountains, which is great  attraction to National and International tourists every year. Aharbal tourist spot is sorrounded by Tall Alpine and trees as well is  rich in flora and fauna.it is easily reachable Via Kulgam and Shopian Districts of Jammu and Kashmir. It is famous for a beautiful water fall known as Aharbal Water fall.

Aharbal Waterfall

Aharbal Water fall also known as Niagara Water falls of Kashmir is worth visiting and is one of the most scenic in Kashmir internary. Aharbal Water fall is famous as river Veshaw  falls noisly 25 meters and 7 meter through a narrow gorge of granite boulders owing to the lot of water that falls on it. The depth of the water fall is formed when river Veshaw falls 25 meters down narrow rocky gorge of granite. A beautiful sightseeing Hut type construction has been developed near water fall for the convenience of tourists and Visitors for photography and watching water fall. It is situated an elevation of 2266 meters i.e.7434 ft from the sea level.

During peak winter season, water does not freeze there but water still flows in the river and even Aharbal water is still alive.  In the months of January and Febuary, there is always a heavy snow fall in the area and it is impossible to reach here by either routes.

The destination falls between two Districts of J&K union territory i.e.Shopian and Kulgam and is situated at an altitude of 2260 meters above the seal level. This Hill Station is quite famous and popular for its amazing and wonderful  water fall  also known as "Niagara Falls of Kashmir" It is  because of its unique beauty and awesome climate, it has become a big attraction for the tourists as well as people of  J&K.

Aharbal  Attractions  Nearby :

The other famous and important tourist locations near by it are Konsar nag Lake which is the origin of river Veshu, Shiwalik Hills, Nil Nag lake, Sang-e-Safed Valley and Dood Ganga. This Hill Station is situated in the River- Veshu a tributary of the river Jhelum where water falls noisily  25 meters and 7 meters through a narrow gorge of granite boulders and according to a research, the water volume would be sufficient to generate 100 MW of hydro electricity that would benefit the local populace. The terraces  leading towards the waterfall area  are fenced but as visitors are advised to take extra care for their safety. It is base  for adventure tourism, and the river namely Veshu is stocked with trout(fishes) and fishing is possible only after obtaining permission from the Government Fisheries DepartmentJ&K stationed in the Hill Station. Panchan Pathri

The other top location nearby is Panchan Pathri which is vast meadow located in Kulgam's Damhal Hanjipora Sub Division area. The  wonderful meadow is actually situated in the Foot Hills of Hoen Heng which is a famous Tall Mountain in District Kulgam. This Hoen Heng is known for a Plane Crash that took place in the year of 1966 claiming around 27 lives. Panchan Pathri is completely sorrounded by forests on all sides and the Meadow also serves as Pastoralists during Summer and they make their livelihood from grazzing in this Meadow. This is also being visited by tourists during Summer season.

Vasak Nag

There is another breathtaking tourist destination called as Vasak Nag in this District. It is actually a miraculous spring that disappears for six months and is situated in the foot Hills of the Pirpanjal and in the lap of Waltengu Nard in Kund area of South Kashmiri's Kulgam District. The spring is among very few springs in Kashmir that do not possess fish in it and it water is quite fit for drinking purpose. Chringbal : 

Chringbal encompasses a vast meadow with enchanting and bubbling rivers flowing through the Valley of Chringbal. Tourists and travelers generally prefer to travel by foot to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of forests and its  Tall Alpine Trees. Government of Jammu and Kashmir has developed a trekking Route for the trekkers who admire trekking. This 6 kilometer trekking distance provided one first hand account of forests of Valley and wonders of the nature in the deep dive of far off places.

Chringbal possesses two distinct picturesque Valleys beneath one another and the milky stream that makes it a perfect and ideal place for camping .

The best things to do here are photography, horse ridding, trekking,camping enjoying the pleasant weather conditions  in the lap of mother nature

Aharbal Hotels and accomodation : 

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has already created Aharbal Development authority that has the sole responsibility for its infrastructure development, upkeep and maintenance. It has built adequate modern tourist huts along the river bank here  with complete modern facilities including  a cafeteria as well other boarding and logging provisions for the convenience of tourists and visitors who come here on for long stays on affordable rates.

There are also private hotels and restaurants available in the nearby  market for visitors on economic rates.Every year thousand of domestic and international tourists visit this calm and beautiful  Hill Station with  wonderful climate to enjoy its  picturesque beauty as well visit to see this unique water fall that remains main focus of tourists during their visit.

There are also  well developed beautiful parks that add the fascination of the hill station.it is also known for its spectacular water fall to and fro journey of 5 to 6 hours from Srinagar There is one more advantage for tourists that they can visit another famous tourist and marvelous tourist location namely  Peer ki Gali which falls near this hill station after taking the route of historical Mughal Road

Aharbal Distance  : 

Aharbal can be reached only by road from Srinagar and the best way to travel is by private Vehicle or Taxi. Public transport is also available in the form of buses, and shared cabs. Tourists and Visitors first reach Srinagar by road and air and from Srinagar, they hire taxis, cabs, etc. There are two routes to reach Aharbal i.e. Travel from Srinagar to Pulwama and from Pulwama to Shopian and then to Aharbal. The total distance is 65 kilometers and is a 2 to 3 hours drive depending upon the traffic. It is only 15 kilometers of the journey which is steep climbs and rest other fifty kilometers are quite flat until Shopian. 

The second possible route from Srinagar is via Kulgam through which Tourists and visitors travel. This route is a bit longer and travel time is also greater than the first route. It takes 3 to 4 hours to reach this route from Srinagar depending upon the traffic. It is about a hundred kilometers drive from Srinagar via Kulgam to reach Aharbal.



Conclude :

Aharbal is easily approachable for tourists by road from Srinagar(68km) and by train from Anantnag and every sort of transport is available for the destination round the clock. If this amazing Hill Station is fully developed, it can become a huge tourist hub in future times. I have visited this Hill station many times and I like it and is worth visiting and night stays here are quite fantastic.

A huge rush of domestic and international tourists is always seen at this famous Hill resort throughout the year, particularly near the wonderful spectacular waterfall which remains their main focus during their visit to this wonderful place. It is also one of the most favorite places of picnickers and many schools, colleges, and universities of Jammu and Kashmir prefer to come here for picnics.
