Panchari, a hill station with heavenly beauty
Panchari is actually the first Tourist Village of Jammu Division in the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It falls in the jurisdiction of Municipality in District Udhampur which located at a distance of about forty kilometers from District Headquarter Udhampur. Panchari Hill station is extremely picturesque, scenic , extremely beautiful and well connected by road to other places in Jammu and Kashmir to India by National Highway NH44.
It is situated at an altitude of about 5900 ft from the sea level and is nearest tourist spot to Jammu city that witnesses a delightful snowfall during the winter season. It is nestled in the middle reaches of Ladha Dhar and this wonderful hill Station is a home to Deodar forests locally called as Dayari and thickets of Banj oak.
This first Tourist Village Pachari of Jammu Division is also one of the most beautiful and extremely scenic Hill Stations in District Udhampur that needs to be explored fully because of its infinte tourism potential. It is sorrounded with dense Deodar forests on one side and a small hill top township on the other side. It is sorrounded by Ladha Dhar on its East side, on its west side it is sorrounded by Saroli Dhar and on the north side is Shankhpal Dhar temple and Kainth Gali ridges on its southern side.

The nearest Railway station to Panchari is Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station and udhampur Railway Station located at a distance of about 57 and 40 kilometres respectively. The nearest airport to Panchari is Jammu airport in Jammu.

Shankri Devta Temple :
This temple is an ancient historical Temple situated on a hillock in Village Meer falling under Block Panchari which is highly spiritual and religious. This temple is quite scenic which is sorrounded by lush green Meadows, dense forests and lofty Mountains. The block Headquarter Panchari and Village Meer are connected with by a better road from District Headquarter Udhampur. The distance from udhampur to this religious temple is about 33 kilometers only.
The village Meer is mostly a hilly terrain and only a small portion of land here is used for agricultural purposes by local inhabitants of the area. The District Administration organises Shankri Devta Mela(festival) every year in the month of April - May in which lacks of people from different parts of the Jammu and Kashmir participate to pay their reverence at this holy temple. Many sports competitions like Kabbadi, Tug of War, weight lifting etc are organized for entertainment purposes as well expose and explore the local talent for various sports.
The rich folk music, dance other art and culture traditions of Panchari are wonders to enjoy.
Panchari weather :
The weather in Panchari Hill Station remains quite pleasant during the summer season and the average temperature ranges here from 26 degree Celsius to 33 degree Celsius through out the year. But during winter season it is quite cool here and average temperature here remains below 12 degree Celsius and in warmer months it is 25 degree Celsius average.

First Tourist Village Panchari has nowadays become one of the mostly visited tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. Tourists and travelers can also avail an opportunity to purchase local authentic art and craft pieces as a memory by visiting a local bazar namely saddar Bazar- Saddi Virasat that has been specially established here to exhibit the local art and craft.
