Gulmarg a popular place in India  also known as the meadow of flowers is a world-famous & popular  Tourist resort is located in Jammu & Kashmir now the Union Territory of India. Gulmarg  Ancient History:-

According to research and ancient history, Gulmarg was originally called Gauri Marg which means the path of Goddess Gouri the wife of Lord Shiva. It was the site of an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati  & with time, its name was changed to Gulmarg by Yousuf Shah of the Chak Dynasty in the 16th century. Maharani Mohini Bai Sisodia wife of the former ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Ji built a new temple at the spot where the old demolished temple was located in 1915 and it is now called Maharani Temple.

This world-famous tourist resort was established by two British Army officers in the years 1927  as a Ski resort but it was originally a Hill Station for tourists who used to come here on vacations, especially in summer seasons to beat the heat. This Hill station has also remained a favorite attraction for Mughal kings and it was also a favorite summer resort of the British Governors and officers during their occupancy of India the in 19th century. 

After the post-independence era, several interesting and landmark developments apart from making this tourist an adventure sports destination were initiated by the Government and one such important step in this direction was the establishment of a ski school which was set up by the Indian Army in 1948 which was later on translated into  High altitude warfare school.
