Diwali celebrations all over India  : 

Diwali, the festival of lights  spiritually signifies  the victory of  of Light over the Darkness, knowledge over the ignorance,  hope over the despair  and good over evil is a festive  that has  historical relevance. This holy festival is one of the major religious  festivals being celebrated  in Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism  and is   being observed  with great pomp and show by  Hindus,  Jains  and Sikhs. This auspicious festival  signifies the day of Lord Rama, his wife Goddess Sita Mata, his brother Lakshamana  return to their home land Ayoudha   after spending fourteen  years in Exile. The word Dipavali is derived from a Sanskrit  Term Depavali  meaning row of lights and is  celebrated by Millions of Hindus all over the world  with great devotion and dedication  as this festive Symbolizes  the victory of light over darkness and represents hope, triumph of good  over evil and joy. 

The  Special festival of Deepawali brings communities together  with a big spirit  of unity and  the celebrations include  decorations of homes with illumination, making rangoli, distributing sweets and performing Laxmi Puja. This festival brings joy and prosperity in every ones life   & is  celebrated mostly in India on high level and the day is marked as National Holiday all over India. This festival is  also observed in the countries like Nepal, Mauritius,  Myanmar,  Singapore,  Sri Lanka, United Kingdom,  United States of America,  Austria and Canada etc. Diwali  celebrates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile  and his Victory  over the demon  King Ravana. To welcome him, the people of Ayodhya lit rows of oil lamps symbolizing  the victory of good over evil  and light over darkness.

The History of Diwali  is quite rich and varies with different stories and meanings for different religions  and in Hinduism, it is a five day celebration  which takes places on the 15th day of the Hindu Month of Kartika, having multiple  religious  importance and relevance. This holy festival of Deepawali is being celebrated in Hinduism  as a return of Lord Rama , his wife Goddess Sita Mata and his brother Lakashamana from Exile period of 14 years  after defeating demon King Ravana. The people of Ayoudya light their path leading to his home with lamps all along with way. 

This festival is also observed as the victory of Lord Krishana over the demon Narakasura who was evil king of Pragyjotishapura and Millions of  Hindus also worship Goddess Lakshmi on this day  who is associated with  wealth, prosperity and fertility. People  light oil lamps and candles  on the day to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness & good over evil and people clean and decorate their houses with lights ,purchase new clothes and exchange sweets and gifts among the friends, families, neighbors  and relatives. Many draw  traditional  designs like Rangoli- made using  colourful powders  outside their doors  to welcome luck and positivity  and the families worship Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth. Windows and doors are kept opened with lamps lit to help the Goddess find her way into the people's home. 

Fire crackers are being used  as a big part of the  celebrations on Diwali Evening  in a limited manner due to restrictions posed by the Government in many States of India in order to avoid spread of air pollution and other problems.   

In Jainism,  the Jains observe  Diwali  festival as this special occasion marks the day when Lord Mahavira, the last of the Jain Tirthankaras  attained Nirvana.

Sikhs also celebrate Diwali all across the globe  as this occasion is being observed as a Bandi Chorh Diwas or the day of liberation to commemorate the release of their sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib from captivity. They celebrate it with enthusiasm and gaiety and perform usual prayers with exchange of sweets and  gifts among the friends and relatives.

India celebrates Diwali the festival of lights on 1st November  2024, this year   as this being the most important festival in the Hindu Calender and this annual festival falls  between October and November  but the exact  date varies  every year   because the Hindu calendar is based on the Moon.  This year Diwali is being celebrated  on  Friday and however in some parts of India, it will be observed on the Thursday .
