An untold Story  of Baba Dhansar  : 

The holy place of Baba Dhansar,  a saint is situated at a Lake known as "Karuna Jheel (Pond)" near the village Karua which is about  10 kilometers away from  Reasi & 14 Km from Katra in  District Reasi of Jammu Province in  Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir India. The approach to this pious place involves a walk of about 200 meters from the main road and the village is quite famous for its temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and lake called " Karua Jheel" From there one can step down the hill about 100 steps with entire walk dotted with several waterfalls that finally join Banganga River where a naturally formed shiv lingam is located on top of which milky droplets fall continuously throughout the year. 

The holy place has been bestowed with a  beautiful cold spring near the temple and the climate nearby this holy area remains quite amazing and cool during hot summers. 

The story of local legend Baba Dhansar a saintly person goes back to ancient times when it is believed that when Lord Shiva went to the  Holy Amar Nath Cave to tell  Parvati, the story of his immortality, Lord Shiva left his serpent King "Sheshnag" at Anantnag Kashmir who came in human form as Vasudev. 

It is believed that One of the sons of Vasudev was Dhansar who was a saintly person. it is believed that in ancient times, there lived a demon near the Karua Lake(Jheel) who used to commit atrocities, havoc, and destruction in the lives of the people of the village of Karua. The villagers got insipid of this demon and came to Baba Dhansar for help to get rid of the Demon who had made their lives quite Difficult and pathetic 

After listening to the woes of the villagers,  Baba Dhansar, a Hindu saint prayed to Lord Shiva for help and Lord Shiva in his prayers agreed to help him and thus arrived as well helped in killing the demon to relieve the pain and agony of the villagers and since that ancient time the temple of Baba Dhansar and cave of Lord Shiva near Karua Jheel has become a place of worship but bathing is strictly prohibited in the Lake(Karua Jheel) because it is considered to be the most sacred but devotees and visitors can take a bath downstream. 

Baba Dhansar a  pilgrimage cum Tourist Place : 

An enormous number of devotees from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country visit this historical religious place on Maha Shivratri and participate in the annual festival being observed during the festival. People have a firm belief that their desires and wishes are always fulfilled once they pray with firm faith and have a bath down the stream here and local people have a staunch belief that Lord Shiva always protects their region from being misshapen. People also visit this holy place during Shravan Month to worship Lord Shiva and there is also a beautiful Temple of Nag Devta. Many schools and colleges in Jammu go on a picnic to Baba Dhansar in the summer season and it has become one of the favorite places for visitors and people now.

Baba Dhansar Distance : 

Every year a large number of Pilgrims visit Mata Vaishno Devi, Shiv Khori shrines, and other religious places in Jammu, do also visit Baba Dhansar to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and pay obedience here. The development of this religious place which is quite poor and lagging is the need of the hour to facilitate pilgrims and people to reach this holy historical destination comfortably and easily for pilgrimage as well to enjoy the natural and amazing beauty of this scenic pilgrimage location. Pilgrims and tourists can easily visit the place as one can easily board a bus, hire a taxi, cabs, etc from Jammu City at affordable rates.

Baba Dhansar Jammu Distance : 

Baba Dhansar is located at a distance of 55 kilometers from Jammu City and it takes about one and a half hour to reach here by a well commected road from Jammu. Cars, taxis, buses and ola etc are easily available at Jammu bus stand.

Baba Dhansar Reasi Distance : 

It is about 17 kilometers distance from Reasi town to Baba Dhansar and takes hardly less than an half hour to reach here by taxis, olas, buses or cars.

Conclude  : 

District Reasi in Jammu Province  is endowed with a lot of  religious places and also Tourist places which are quite rich in natural beauty, flora and fauna, rivers and rivulets which have not been explored fully.  There are many Temples  in District Reasi those are  dedicated to Lord Shiva including  Shiv Khori , Salal Shiv Cave, Mahadev Temple Reasi .

It is intresting to say that Out of the many holy places located in  District Reasi, there exists a famous religious place namely  Baba Dhansar in Karua Village that has pious  temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Karua village is situated approximately 10 kms away from Reasi and 14 kms from  Katra. The village is known for its temple dedicated to the Lord Shiva and Karua Jheel. Upon reaching here one can step  downhill in about  100 steps. The entire walk is dotted with a number of waterfalls that ultimately join the Banganga River and near this rivulet, ther is a naturally formed Shivalingam on top of which milky water droplets fall continuously throughout the year.

s per belief of locals that  when Lord Shiva went to the  Amarnath cave to tell Parvati the story of his immortality. Therefore he left his serpent king, Sheshnag at Anantnag and Shesh Nag came back to this place  in the human form as Vasudev. One of the sons of Vasudev was Dhansar who was a saintly person and as per  the local belief goes that  in the ancient times there was a Demon that lived near Karua Jheel and committed atrocities on the people of village Karua. 

The villagers approached Baba Dhansar and sought his   help  to get rid of the demon. It is believed that  Baba Dhansar prayed to Lord Shiva for help and  Lord Shiva appeared and helped in killing the demon and in this way big relief was provided to the viilagers. The temple of Baba Dhansar and a cave of Lord Shiva near Karua Jheel has become a place of worship. Karua Jheel is considered sacred where bathing is not permitted.However, the devotees may take a bath downstream and  people believe that their wishes are fulfilled if they take bath in the stream and pray with complete faith. A large number of devotees visit the place every year on the day of Mahashivratri when an annual mela is organized and during shravan month to worship Lord Shiva. There is also a Nag devta temple.

Baba Dhansar is also considered as one of the best picnic spots in District Reasi where people can break away from the humdrum of routine life. It is being thronged  by nature lovers, especially from  Jammu, Vaishno Devi devotees and  Shiv Khori devotees, the place has yet to be listed as an important tourist destination in the State. 

The footfall on this religious place is very high as in the summer there is no space seen which is not filled by visitors, but yet the development of this religious place is not up to mark. The road leading to  Baba Dhansar is in dilapidated condition in some areas. During ShivRatri, the people have to wait for at least 2 to 4 hours or even more for having darshan of the Lord Shiva.

 A number of Langers are arranged by devotees of the Lord to serve parshad among the devotees. Locals have a staunch belief that Lord Shiva has always protected their region from mishappenings. They further believe that every wish of theirs is fulfilled by visiting this shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Let's all pray to Baba Dhansar to request Lord Shiva to shower His choicest blessings on humanity as well as lead us to usher in a new era of peace, progress, prosperity, and brotherhood.

It is also the need of the hour to develop this religious and tourist destination with proper infrastructure to facilitate the pilgrims and tourists to visit this place in large numbers to boost the economy of local people living near this pilgrim place. 

Many schools and colleges of Jammu Province go on picnics to this place to enjoy the scenic beauty during the summer season and also pay obeisance to the highly respected saint Baba Dhansar at the Temple. This holy place has currently become the must-see place in the District of Reasi and witnesses a heavy rush of pilgrims and tourists throughout the year not only from Reasi but also from Jammu , Samba ,Kathua, Udhampur and other District of union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
