 Bhaderwah , a Place where one feels close to Nature : 

Bhaderwah, a land of splendors and surprises is a beautiful town, Tehsil and Sub- Divison situated in Doda District in Jammu Province of union Territory of J&K, India. It is about 200 kilometers away from the winter capital J&K, Jammu. and this impressive Town is cradled in the foothills of the Himalayas at an altitude of 1613  meters from sea level and is famous for a 600-year-old festival called Mela Pat. The ancient name of Bhaderwah was BhaderKali after the name of Goddess Bhaderkali and quite popular and famous for its cold climate, ultimate scenic beauty, splendid landscapes, trekking, horse riding, etc. Bhaderwah is a land of surprises and splendours as well a place where God's architectural experience and elegance is closely felt by any one whoso ever visits here.

A famous historian and writer Kalhana described Bhaderwah in his book Rajatrangani written in Sanskrit as a Naag Bhoomi which means land of snakes. Bhaderwah Fort was built in 1733 and its construction was initiated by Raja Medni Pal, the founder of Bhaderwah later on it was modified and strengthened by Fatehpal,  his descendent.

It is also called Chota Kashmir(Mini Kashmir) for its ultimate scenic beauty and for its high literacy rate, it is also called Kerala of Jammu and Kashmir. The weather of Bhaderwah is quite cold and pleasant throughout the year but during the summer season, the temperature goes high a bit and the atmosphere remains slightly warm from the month of September onwards, the temperature begins to drop, and during the end of the month of December, the city is completely covered with snow and it becomes fit for winter tourism. It is an ideal place for camping and mountaineering.

It is pertinent to mention here that there is poñd of water which still exists here called as Shankhchur Talia(pond) and ther is a small temple of Jimutavahana Prince now called as Jaslee Devta in local language. It is definitely a perfect place any one would like to visit during summer season to get respite from scroching heat of summer season.

A famous and holy Voyage called as Kailash Yatra in Bhaderwah starts every year from Gatha previously called as Ghosta to Kailash Kund situated at an altitude of 1440 feet  from sea level. Thousands of people from different parts of the country participate in this religious Yatra that commences in the month of Bhadu on Dewadshi Thethi Krishan Paksh according to Bikram Samwat i.e last day of August.
