Panzath Nag  History : 

Fabolous Panzath Nag (Spring) is not only a single spring but is actually a cluster of five hundred springs spread over an area of one to two kilometers range lying ahead of this big spring unexplored Panzath Nag(Spring). The crystal clear water of Panzath Nag with its unimaginable depth is a matter of big mystery to the people of the area and others.

The unexplored Fabolous Panzath Nag is the first amazing tourist destination when you enter  Kashmir Valley through Qazigund- Banihal Tunnel in District Anantnag in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India.  It is hardly a five to ten minutes drive from Tehsil Headquarters Qazigund to reach this old historical unexplored destination. The Panzath Nag(Spring)is spread over an area of two kilometers with amazing and fabulous scenic beauty. The people of the village of Panzath are hospitable and their main occupation is farming and agriculture.

As per research, there are about 500 springs spread over an area of about one and a half kilometers commencing from their main source namely Satrashi, and the last big and vast spring is located near the holy shrine of Ziyarat Sheikh Aftab Sahib in the Nagbhal area of Panzath Nag. People in large numbers visit this holy shrine to pay their obedience and homage and seek the blessings of this holy Saint Sheikh Aftab Shaib. 

 The depth of this big spring is an unknown and a big mystery. It is believed that the crystal clear water of this spring flows from source Satrashi and on reaching the place near the holy shrine takes the shape of a big river called Panzath nag The water of fabulous Panzath Nag never dries up and keeps flowing throughout the year with natural blessings. There are a large number of beautiful rocks and mountains located in the Satrashi area and the stones these rocks are famous in the District as these are being used for the construction of houses &  buildings etc. The people have a great craze for these stones of these rocks and these stones are always in demand in the market mostly in south Kashmir.

Panzath Nag, an Excursion spot  :

There is a well-known and famous historian called Kalhana who in his book Rajtarangani has properly mentioned this spring (Pancashasta) in Pargana (revenue unit) Devsar which means five hundred springs. The word  Pancashasta means five hundred and with time, the name became Panzath. Before the migration of Kashmir pandits from the valley in 1990, most of the Kashmiri Pandits of adjoining villages like Levedora used to visit Panzath Nag(spring) on some special occasions to pay homage and obedience to the place as it was also being respected and worshiped by them in their own way. This place also symbolizes the character of communal harmony and brotherhood. Many schools take their children on excursions during the summer season to Panzath Nag and enjoy its mesmerizing beauty.

 Panzath Nag(spring) Benefits : 

The crystal water of these five hundred springs is being supplied to more than two dozen villages for drinking purposes by Jal Shakti Department and to ensure the regular supply of pure drinking water to the people of these hamlets, a proper Dam has been built by Jal Sikhati Department. The villages which are benefited from the pure drinking water of Panzath Nag are Vessu, Damjan, Badragund, Bonigam, Yarhole, Babapora, Nawa,  Drinan, Levedora, Panzath, Wanpora and 1.8 million liters of drinking water is being provided per day to these villages. 

The water of Fabulous Panzath Nag is also used for irrigation purposes by local people and more than fifty villages are being irrigated with this water.

There is also a beautiful hatchery established by the Jammu and Kashmir Fisheries Department on the banks of Panzathnag  Spring. Breed-like Rainbow fishes, trout, and Kashmiri fish are reared here on a mass scale and special provisions have also been made by the Government for their rearing on a high level &  selling. 

Panzath Nag Distance  : 

Tourists and travelers can easily reach this fabulous tourist destination by hiring a cab, taxi, tempo, or local easily available transport from the town of Qazigund the gateway of Kashmir, and within five to ten minutes drive you will reach this amazing tourist destination enjoy the beauty of nature here. There are easily available hotels, tourist reception centers, restaurants, etc at the Tehsil Headquarters of Qazigund for the convenience of the tourists and visitors at manageable prices.   

Panzath Nag places to visit neaby  :

The other famous tourist destination nearby PanzathNag(Spring)which are easily approachable are Verinag, Duksum, Kokernag, Pahalgam, Vasak Nag , kousar Nag, Aharbal and Sinthantop. These world-famous tourist spots can be easily visited as they are well connected by roads from Tehsil Headquater  Qazigund. A large number of tourists visit these places every and spend their vacations and enjoy the fabulous and splendid beauty of these locations. 

These tourist destinations are globally famous and every year a good number of tourists from different parts of India and abroad visit especially to these destinations and go back with indelible memories.

The historical famous Panzath Nag (spring) has tremendous tourism potential and is bestowed with natural beauty. The Government of J&K must develop such a fabulous unexplored tourist destination by creating adequate tourism infrastructure to attract domestic and foreign tourists. The destination if developed properly can be equal to the world-famous tourist location namely  Verinag in terms of its beauty and pleasant weather as both destinations are located in the gateway of Kashmir near Qazigund Town. 

It has come to our knowledge during research that the unexplored fabulous Panzath Nag(Spring) will now be under Verinag Development Authority(VDA) for its beautification, maintenance, and upkeep and a detailed project report has already been submitted to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir for its final nod so that necessary work is started for the same. Such unexplored destinations must be developed on a priority basis and recently this has been brought on the Tourist map and two villages have been declared as Tourist villages as this was the long aspiration of the people of Panzath and Wanpora villages.
