History

In the 7th century, the Karkota Empire rose to power, with Lalitaditya Muktapida leading successful military campaigns against the Tibetans and other eastern kingdoms. The region continued to flourish under various Hindu dynasties, including the Utpalas and Loharas, until the 14th century.

b. Medieval Period

Islam began to spread in Kashmir in the 14th century, with Shah Mir becoming the first Muslim ruler in 1339. The Afghan Durrani Empire then took control, followed by the Sikh Empire under Ranjit Singh in 1819. 

c. Dogra Rule and British Influence

The Treaty of Amritsar in 1846 led to the creation of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir under Maharaja Gulab Singh, marking the beginning of Dogra rule which lasted for hundred years. This period saw significant political and social changes, with the British exerting influence over the region. 

d. Partition and Conflict

India gained independence in 1947, and Jammu and Kashmir's accession to India led to a dispute with Pakistan, resulting in the first Indo-Pakistani War. The region has remained a point of contention, with subsequent wars in 1965, 1971, and 1999. Today, Jammu and Kashmir is a union territory of India & integral part of India  while Pakistan controls parts of the region as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan illegally.
