India  is globally know as a center of spirituality and is home to large number of pilgrimage sites, spiritual destinations, Towns and cities. The Mighty Himalayas  of India are renowned  for being abode of Gods and Indian Himalayas are considered as a hub for big spirituality all across the globe. There are many spiritual destinations nestled in the Mighty Indian Himalayas and some of the prominent.  spiritual destination is about visiting a holy and spiritual  destinations of workshop belonging to different  religions  and gain spiritual experience  and enlightenment to improve once well being in terms of body, mind and spirit. 

The Indian Himalayas are considered  sacred and mystical. Saints, Yogis and spiritual people are drawn to these stately and lofty Mountains and as per Hindu religion, the Himalayas are the abode of Gods especially of Lord Shiva. Neelkanth, a peak in the Himalayas owes its name to Lord Shiva ( Check out our Shiv Khori article ).  The Himalayas are also considered as a great blessing for India because these  affect climate change,  acts as strong  defense barrier in the North  , serve as  big source of rivers, fertile soil, help in agricultural activities, promote generation of hydroelectricity, forest wealth, minerals and pilgrimage. The Himalayas also save us from cold and dry winds of Central Asia. 

The Himalayas also prevent Moonson winds  of the India Ocean   from crossing  over to the  Northern Countries and cause heavy rainfall in the Northern part of  India. The Himalayan slopes have dense forests and they attract a large number of tourists  every year  as well prevented India from invaders time timely. 

It is important to  say that  spiritual  destinations  in India or Temple Tourism as many are coining it are nowadays  becoming more popular than ever with lot of visitors seeking holistic holidays, solace  and wellness retreats soothe their unsettled soul and 60 percent  of tourism in India  is associated with religious  and spiritual tourism  as per the Economic Times Survey. 

There are many spiritual destinations nestled in Indian Himalayas and among them, the  mostly visited spiritual destinations  are Badrinath , Kedarnath,  Tungnath,  Joshimath, Kailash Manasarovar,  Gangtok, Vaishno Devi Shrine, Amar Nath Shrine Kashmir etc. [Check out our Amarnath article,(updated)]

But today in this blog i am going to tell my esteemed viewers and readers about five most spiritual destinations nestled in the Himalayas of  Uttarakhand State in India and hope all of you appreciate our efforts : 

1. Rishikesh  Uttarakhand :

Reshikesh is a renowned as a spiritual hub that fascinates seekers and devotees  from around the world  and is located in the Northern Part of  Uttarakhand. It is situated at a distance of about 238 kilometers from Northeast of Delhi and 24 kilometers from Haridwar and is spread on the right banks of the River Ganges. It has a rich history  with religious significance  and also known as the place of Sagas. It is situated 24 kilometers upstream from Haridwar  at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga. 

Which god is Rishikesh famous for ?

Reshikesh is a renowned as a spiritual hub that fascinates seekers and devotees from around the world and is located in the Northern Part of Uttarakhand. It is famous for Lord Shiva, it is believed that God by the name Hrishikesh had appear red as an answer to the hard penances by Rabhiya Rishi and henceforth the place derived its name.


2. Kedar Nath (Uttarakhand) :

Kedarnath is an another Char Dham Pilgrim destination situated in the Mighty Garhwal Himalayas in the State of Uttarkhand in India.

This pious Spiritual pilgrimage destination offers divine atmosphere amid snow capped Peaks and is considered as one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India as well as one of the most revered Temple destinations of India.The town built around the revered Kedarnath Temple is located at an altitude of 3580 meters from the sea level near Chorabari glacier which is the source of the Mandakini River. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has exquisite architecture and is built of extremely large but evenly shaped grey stone slabs. A conical rock formation inside the temple is worshiped as Lord Shiva in his " Sadashiva" form. It is a part of Char Dham pilgrimage circuit and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in India. The best time to visit here is May to October but during the winter months, it remains closed due to heavy snowfall.

3. Joshimath Uttarakhand : 

Joshi Math is actually a beautiful village  in District Chamoli in  the State of Uttarakhad  in India which is stiutated at an altitude of 6150 feet from the sea level and is a gateway to many Himalayan climbing expeditions, trekking trails, pilgrimage center like  Badrinath. It is a  religious destination of Hindus having great religious significance. Joshimath is an important spiritual center for Hindu spirituality and it is also a home to  Shankaracharaya Math as well it is a gateway for trekking to Aulvi, Badrinath and famous Narsing Temple. 

4. Badri Nath Uttarkhand :

This famous spiritual destination is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas in the State of Uttrakhand in India and is one of the prime hub of Hidu Pilgrimage. Bardinath or Badrinarayana , dedicated to Lord Vishnu is also one of the Char Dham in India that attracts pilgrims and spirituality seekers from all over the world. It is one of the holy shrins for Vaishnavites among the 108 Divya Desams incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Badrinath Town is also a part of Panch Badri Temples including Yog Dhyan, Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri and Vriddha Badri along with Badrinath Temple. 

5.  Tung Nath the Highest Shiva Temple in the world :

Tungh Nath Temple is nestled at an altitude of 3680 meters in the heart of  the Himalayas in District Rudraprayag  in Indian State of Uttarakhand  and offers panoramic views of its surroundings to the visitor.  It  is among the Panch Kedar Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and this temple is one of the Highest Shiva Temples in the world and highest of the five Panch Kedar Temples. Tungnath is well connected  with most of the important towns and cities of Uttarakhand. Chopta is the place from where a mild distance of 3.5 kilometers to Tunghnath starts and it is situated in the middle of Gopeshwar Guptkashi route connecting  Kedernath to Badrinath Shrine. 

The Tungnath Temple stands tall at an altitude of 3680 meters from the sea level thus makes it the highest Shiva Temple globally  and this temple is reached by a scenic trek of about 3.5 kilometers from Chopta but the trek is relatively moderate, passing through lush green meadows, dense forests offering breathtaking views all around.  This Temple has a spiritual significance as per legends  Tungnath is where  Lord Shiva's arms appeared  after he took the form of a bull to evade the Pandavas. The architectural marvel of  this globally famous temple  although relatively small  in size, Tungnath Temple boasts  exquisite architecture with intricate  stone carvings and a distinctive Himalayan Style. 

The Natural beauty in its surroundings  is the most captivating beauty of Garhwal  Himalayas, characterized by snow-capped peaks, alpine Meadows and dense forests of Rhododendron and Oak.  The most important thing about is spiritual temple is that  due to its remote location away from hustle and bustle of city life , it provides a serene and tranquil atmosphere  to  the visitors.   Photographers and nature enthusiasts  are drawn  to Tungnath Temple for its peaceful atmosphere, serene natural beauty and outstanding surroundings.

The Himalayas are also called as abode of the Gods and hub of spirituality since ancient times  and there are many spiritual Destinations in Indian Himalayas where people from different faiths visit every year for meditation, pilgrimage,  adventure  exploration  etc  but one more mostly visited  Himalayan spiritual  destinations besides above is Kailash  Mansarovar Which   is a sacred Himalayan  pilgrimage site situated in Tibet that comprises of Mount Kailash and Lake namely Manasarovar and it is a holy pilgrimage destination for people of many religions including Hinuds, Buddhists, Bonpas and Jains,Mount Kailash is considered as the home of Hindu God  Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati which is situated at an altitude of 6675 meters from the sea level. 

The lake Manasarovar  is located at the base of  Mount Kailash and this land is believed to have been created by  God Brahama and taking dip in it cleanse sins and brings  one to Lord Brahama's Paradise. 

Budhhists also believed that Buddhism was relocated to Tibet on Mount Kailash  and consider the Mountain as the home of the Buddha Demchok.  while Jains  consider Kailash to be the  Mount Ashtapada  where their  first leader Rishabhadeva  attained freedom  from rebirth.  Similarly  Bonpas  believe that  Mount Kailash is the home of the Sky goddess  Sipaimen.  

Gangtok the capital  Sikkim  is home to several Buddhist Monasteries including  Rumtek and Enchey Monastaries. The peaceful atmosphere of the city makes  it a perfect heaven for visitors.
