History : 

Synopsis : 

Bhalessa is famous for its picturesque valleys and villages & has more than 3 dozen beautiful sites that can attract tourists, travelers, and mountaineers as these tourist spots are natural landscapes. It is geographically  one of the most remote  and inaccessible parts of District Doda which expands its boundaries with Kishtwar, Thathri, and Bhaderwah  and also shares its border with  Chamba In Himachal Pradesh, 

The History of Bhalessa dates back to 200 B.C. when the revered Buddhist scholar Nagsena was invited for discussion by King Mender at his Royal  Palace at Sakla Kishtwar. During the discussion, Buddhist Scholar Nagsena replied to all the questions asked by the King Mender. Later he embraced Buddhism and became king of Milinda. 

Topography

Bhalessa is one of the most beautiful, remote, and hilly accessible unseen tourist destinations situated in district Doda in the union Terriority of Jammu and Kashmir in Jammu Division(India). Its boundaries are touching Kishtwar, Thatri, and Bhaderwah and it also exchanges border with Chamba in Himachal Pradesh. The locations are over a vast area with mountainous topography and bestowed with dense forests with the vast area under it. 

Traditional industries such as beekeeping, sheep cattle rearing, blanket making, ghee production, and handloom weaving play a great role in the cultural economy of Bhalessa.

The tourism sector has tremendous potential but needs to be explored and developed. Unnoticed  Bhalessa has a beautiful meadow covered with dense forests en route ke Roharhi, Kanthi, Bal Padri, Soin Bhagar, etc It has tremendous Tourism potential and is also beautiful. There are the meadows that are bestowed with God-gifted landscapes having tremendous tourism potential and natural meadows surrounding the lush green Deodar and Kails.

The beauty of this area is no way less than the globally recognized Kashmir Valley. It has also narrow rivers with a lot of potential to produce electricity. School children from flung areas select these places for excursions and annual picnic spots as it is a distant dream for visitors and trekkers because the area has not been developed properly and is still unexplored. 

Bhalessa has more than 3 dozen destinations  that attract tourists, and mountaineers, and the destination also has a temple and mosque on its sides with many hot and cold springs around the slopes of mountains that market it as more charming and fascinating 

It has also many trekking routes for adventure lovers who travel through such places with unbelievable captivating scenic beauty. Transport facilities are easily available from Kishtwar, Doda, Bhaderwah, and Jammu and it connects Bhalessa with the rest of the country. 

Bhalessa Places to Visit : 

The most scenic must-see places in Bhalassa which tourists and travelers also visit to enjoy their natural beauty are Bhal Padri Bhalessa


Bhal Padri is a marvelous hill station above a group of small valleys that are covered with dense forests situated in the Changa, Bhalessa area of Doda District.  It touches and borders Padri Pass, Bhaderwah which is located at a distance of  4 kilometers northeast.  many rivulets and streams flow through this valley.

Bal Padri Bhalessa is situated at an altitude of 8000 ft from the sea level and it receives heavy snowfall during winters with the depth going up to 4 meters, The big landscape of Padri makes it a cherished picnic spot and a delightful health resort.  

Jai Valley is another everlasting green valley that is located in the North East of Bhaderwah Town situated at a distance of about 32 kilometers away from Bhaderwah city.  It is well connected to the town by a beautiful Bhaderwah- Jai- Link Road and the valley runs in kilometers bisected by a rivulet called Jai Nallah flowing towards Thathri Tehsil  Headquarters where it merges into Kalgoni Nallah which has mighty waterfalls and rocks that post great challenge to expert rock climbers. This Jai Nallah is famous and popular for its rich Trout culture. 


The stay facilities in Jai Valley for tourists are available as a Holiday village but with colorful tents and well-designed igloo Huts. There is also a beautiful Youth Hostel for adventure lovers and trekkers and this hostel can accommodate about 150 guests at a time. Tourists upon entering Jai Valley from the Jai Top route feel completely in the lap of Nature. This Nature's lap is surrounded by lush green coniferous trees & towards the east lies Bhalessa Valley which is also linked to Kahara Area through  Kahara- Jai- Road with a distance of 27 kilometers. It is quite an ideal place for winter sports as it remains open for tourists and travelers even in peak summers when it is covered with a blanket of snow. During this time in summer, visitors pitch their tents here for weeks together & enjoy horse riding, and trekking in the cool blue waters.

Jai Valley is known for wild herbs like Digitalis Purea, Aconitim Podophyllum, etc and there are also two religious temples namely  Subar Nag and Roshera Mata situated at a distance of 2 and 4 kilometers respectively from each other on hillocks called Subar Dhar and Rosher Dhar.

During our research, we have explored many beautiful and heart-touching sites like Bal Padri,  Damote Dhar, Kanthi Dhar, Bach Dhar, Nagni Dhar,  Goha Dhar,  Rohari Meadows,  Lamhote Meadows,  Soin Bhagar,  Ghashir Top,  Talaie,  Dhosa Meadows, Kota top,  Dhanaso Dhar,  Kahara Meadows,  Naglotan, Jawali Meadows,  Lakhan,  Kehan Dhar,  Mihaad Dhar,  Moti Dhar,  Beerchow waterfall, Raj Goth Ghati,  Chowandi Meadows, etc. Bhalessa also has various geographical beautiful and amazing hamlets like  Jitota, Pingal, Chilli,  Nanota, Basnota, and Neeli. 

Bhalessa Distance : 

Bhalessa is a geographical place within the jurisdiction of Doda District in the Jammu Province in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. it consists of Bunjwah and Bhalessa Valley and it is made up of three Tehsils namely  Kahara, Chilly Pingal, and Gandoh. 

The distance from Jammu to Bhalessa Gandoh is 234 Km by road and it takes about seven hours to reach this destination by bus Stand Jammu via NH  44 and NH 244 through Batote Via National Highway 144, the Chenani Nashri Tunnel. The Distance between Bhalessa from Doda City is about 65 kilometers and 25 kilometers from Bhaderwah. Transport facilities are easily available from Jammu, Udhampur, Doda, and Bhaderwah Towns at preferable rates. 

Bhalessa weather : 

Bhalessa is a geographical area within the Doda District in the Jammu region of UnionTerritory of Jammu & Kashmir and the weather throughout the year here remains quite charming. During the summer, one can have glimpses of snow all around and the temperature remains quite normal and nights are cool here.

there are a lot of hotels and restaurants easily available for tourists and travelers at manageable rates in the vicinity of Bhalessa. Besides it, there are top-class Hotels, restaurants, and a good market in Bhaderwah situated at a distance of 24 kilometers from Gandhi Bhalessa where one can comfortably stay as per his choice and comfort.

The area of Bhalessa which is blessed with incredible natural beauty, snow-capped mountains, valleys & 2 fascinating rivers if explored fully and developed properly with ample tourism infrastructure with better connectivity can attract more tourists and visitors from all over India and different parts of the world. The unexplored places if explored fully and developed with adequate required tourist infrastructure can increase and boost the economy of the area on a mass scale. 

This can become a  game changer for the economy of our UT of Jammu and Kashmir, especially for Jammu Province which has a huge tourism potential that needs to be explored and developed.
