Significance of Shravan Shraadh at Kapal Mochan Shrine :  

Kapal Mochan Shrine, situated  in the village of Degam in Shopian about 2 kilometers southwest of Shopian town,  is an ancient and spiritually significant shrine which is  dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is nestled  at an elevation of 7,041 feet from the sea level,  making it one of the coldest regions in Kashmir. The shrine is positioned along the west bank of the river Rambiara , a tributary of the Vitasta (Jhelum) River, that  flows through the picturesque Pir Panjal Mountain Range. As revered for its association with the mythological event of Lord Shiva cleansing himself from the sin of Brahmahatya, the sin of killing Brahma, the shrine has remained a place of deep reverence for Hindus, particularly Kashmiri Pandits since it's inception. This shrine  has been mentioned in ancient scriptures like Rajatarangini by Kalhana and Haracaritacintamani famous writers and historians,  indicating its historical significance.
