Kadalundi Tourist Island is about 25 kilometres away from a famous historical and significant place namely Kozhikode. The reference of Kadalundi can be traced in the documents of the Sangham era during which it was called as Thondi, which was the Headquarter of Chera dynasty.

The History of this outstanding and famous Tourist place dates back to the ancient times when it was a major port that had a trade relations with Arabs and Romans. The region came under the control of local rulers namely Parappanad Kovilakam in the 12th Century. The Parappanad ruler allowed the Dutch to build the Chaliyath Forte here, that was later demolished by the Zamorin and at later stage, the place came under British rule.
